We are residents of Bernal Heights, the Mission, the Portola and St. Mary’s Park who believe the creation of more housing - affordable, market-rate, public, and social - is critical to ensuring a vibrant and diverse community that can live, work, and raise families in our beloved city. We engage in education and advocacy activities to advance our goals.

Neighbor Potlucks with D9 supervisor candidates
At D9 Neighbors for Housing, we know that addressing our district's housing shortage requires a multi-pronged approach that includes housing at all income levels. That's why we were excited to host a series of in-depth community forums with District 9 Supervisor candidates Trevor Chandler, Roberto Hernandez, and Jackie Fielder in 2024.
Our goal was to give voters a comprehensive look at each candidate's vision for increasing housing production across the spectrum, from deeply affordable units to workforce housing to market-rate homes. We believe that a diverse range of housing options is essential to creating an inclusive, thriving D9.
We asked the candidates to detail their plans for meeting San Francisco's ambitious housing targets, which include units at all affordability levels. We explored their views on key strategies like upzoning, which we believe is critical to unlocking more housing in our transit-rich neighborhoods.
Streamlining the production process for all types of housing was another key focus. We sought examples of how each candidate would reduce bureaucratic hurdles, leverage a range of funding sources, and get shovels in the ground faster.
Crucially, we uplifted the voices of pro-housing D9 residents who understand the urgent need for more housing choices. We asked how each candidate would build broad coalitions, make a compelling case for new housing, and engage community members around the benefits of thoughtful growth.
The forums highlighted the scope of our housing challenges, but also the incredible potential we have to turn the tide. By embracing a comprehensive approach that includes affordable housing, missing middle homes, and market-rate units, we can create a more balanced, accessible housing landscape.
